With No big Avenger films lined up for 2020 the year was supposed to be not the biggest year for Hollywood however things have taken a turn for the worst.
The corona Pandemic is all set to make the box office burn. The consequences of the now titled” pandemic” have ranged from 50% of all cinemas shuttered and lowered attendance at theaters that remain open to Hollywood films being postponed and production shutting down.
Even when Theaters open it will take longer to coax people back to their usual habits. This weekend’s box office results already started to show signs of what could be ahead.
Lionsgate’s I Still Believe came in lower than the $10M+ many were seeing yesterday, with $9.5M at 3,250 locations. Universal/Blumhouse’s Invisible Man and The Hunt were 4th and 5th with $6M and $5.3M on 2500 plus screens.
However the biggest loser of them all is Sony and VIn Diesel’s Blood shot the Super hero film that was tracked to open at 30 million first frame has opened to a staggering 10 million.
The financial ramifications are likely going to be felt by studios, filmmakers and theater owners for years to comeand this is the start.
At this point of time 2020 is looking lower than 2019 However all is not lost as there are some films that could swing the tide.
“Mulan,” “Black Widow” and “Wonder Woman 1984” seemed destined for box office success and If Fast 9 decides to prepone it’s release the year could be strong as towards the end of the ear one will see Chris Pratt’s The Tomorrow War along with Top Gun and Bond 25 also will come is G I Joe Snake eyes.
The action genre is the only genre that can stop this blood bath .
