Production on Max Winkler’s latest, Jungleland, is underway currently, starring Charlie Hunnam, Jack O’Connell, and Jessica Barden. According to Romulus Entertainment, which is producing the movie, the movie follows the story of Stanley, a bare-knuckle boxer, and his younger brother, Lion, struggling to get by as they travel across the country for the next bout. While managing Lion’s boxing career, Stanley foolishly gambles on each of Lion’s matches. As Stanley plunges further into debt, we follow their journey together as they attempt to mend their situation. Along the way they meet an unexpected companion (Barden) and she throws the entire brotherly relationship into chaos.
Hunnam is popularly known as the star of the FX hit series Sons of Anarchy. Since that series’ ended, the actor has headlined quite a few films, with little success, including King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and most recently, Papillon. O’Connell, on the other hand, has seen his star rise greatly over the last few years with leading roles in Unbroken and recent Netflix series Godless. Barden is best known as the lead in the Netflix series The End of the Fucking World.
Jungleland is co-written by Max Winkler, along with Theodore B. Bressman and David Branson Smith. Despite the decidedly British cast, Jungleland is currently filming in Massachusetts and New York before traveling across the US.
There’s no release date set for the film, but should premiere sometime in 2019.
