NAMHANSANSEONG a Korean Film

The movie title is actually NAMHANSANSEOUNG FORTRESS, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Situated 25 km southeast from the center of the capital city of Seoul, the mountain fortress city of Namhansanseong sits approximately 480m above sea level aligning itself with the ridges of the mountain to maximize its defensive capacity. The fortress encompassing 12 km in length protects a vast area utilized as an emergency capital city of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea (1392~1910). With the basis of fortress architecture of East Asia, the fortress embodies the broad exchange between the four countries: Joseon of Korea, Azuchi-Momoyama Period of Japan, Ming and Qing China, especially in the 16th~18th centuries through the continuous wars. Synopsis; Set in 1636, when the Qing Dynasty attacked the Joseon, the film focuses on King Injo (played by PARK Hae-il) and his retainers, who are hustled within the fortress located in Namhansanseong. One of his retainers (LEE Byung-hun) advocates for negotiations with the attacking force while another (KIM Yun-seok) urges the king to keep on fighting. The film is based on a novel of the same name by KIM Hoon which was published in 2007.

Actor Lee Byung-Hun rules the Korean movie this year. His new movie “Master” has made to the box office list and made the break even point within eight days. Previously he starred in two Hollywood movie “The Misconduct” and “The Magnificent Seven” and cameo appearance in “The Age of Shadows.”

Filming for Namhansanseong Fortress kicked off last November with a release expected to follow at some point this year.
