Tiger is Back but is he really let’s find out. Kabir Khan Directed the 2012 smash hit Ek Tha Tiger that was an Action Love story about 2 spies who fall in love the problem was that both were from Either Side of the border one from India the Other from Pakistan.
The film that released on EID 2012 did a whopping business of 199 crs INR and was the highest grossing Hindi Film of that time. 5 years later the makers release the Sequel titled Tiger Zinda Hai. Does it break the Barriers of it’s predecessor lets find out.
The Story Picks up 7 years later Tiger is now a family man living in the Austrian mountains with his wife Zoya ( katrina Kaif) and His 7 year old son Junior life is good for Tiger when all of a sudden Mr. Shinoy director of Raw who was also once Tiger’s mentor reaches out to Tiger to send him for a Mission Impossible to rescue Indian Nurses from Ikrit ( Tikrit Name changed) from the IS Terror group who have held them Hostages. Tiger has only 7 Days to finish this Mission as on the 8th day the United States will Launch a Drone Strike to wipe out the hospital and all it’s Hostages . Can Tiger finish this mission and Save the Women of His Country makes the rest of the tale.
The Script written by Director Ali Abbas Zafar had the potential of Being an “Edge of your seat” Action Thriller Sadly Abbas Gets lost in unnecessary sequences ending up with a draggy Screenplay. The Movie Runs at Over 2 hours and 40 minute’s and that one of it’s biggest draw backs . Any film today aside from a true tentpole should be a minute short of 120 . Songs and Unnecessary sequences add to making the watch Tad Tedious.
Ali Abbas Zaffar tries to create symbolic Shots like one would expect from a Micheal Bay , Riddley Scott sadly those sequences are badly executed.
Marcin Laskawiec camera work will for sure give people sitting in the first 3 rows a massive vertigo . The Pans will leave you feeling Dizzy forsure. A film of this scale should have had a better camera team and better colorists. Rameshwar S Bhagat’s Editing is ludicrous he cuts the Action on the point of the Action not letting the Action Complete. The Scene where Katrina flips in the car and is the money shot of the film is one of the worst piece of edits i have seen till date.
Coming to the Action tom struthers who’s primarly worked on Super Hero films fails to bring any sort of novelty to the Action . The biggest problem with the Action is that Struthers has primarily works on Super Hero films where most of the Action is created in 3D with Animation, his contribution is marginal to it. That clearly shows in this film. None of the Action Scenes have finesse . In fact one of the Chase Sequences in the film ( I won’t mention where, you’ll will know) looks like it was shot at 2 km per hour. The Only Sequence which was decently executed was the one featuring Katrina Kaif in it. It’s time she does a stand alone Action film. Tom who has Designed the Action has managed to create nothing that has not been seen a Hundred times before.
The Visual Effects are decent in places however the fire Stimulation look massively fake. Some Matte Paintings are well done and well composited.
Coming to The Stars Salman Khan plays his part well he’s awesome with Action as always. However Katrina Kaif was extremely impressive with her Action Sequences and should totally focus in this space.
On the whole Tiger Zinda Hai makes for a decent watch at 2.40 plus had it been under 2 hours the film would be an entertaining watch and and an even bigger hit that it will be .
