Pacific Rim was truly a special movie , it was original it had glimpses of a believable plot and Guillermo Del Toro made an excellent movie with a fantastic star cast in Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba.
The Sequel To pacific rim is out and it’s titled Pacific rim Uprising does it live up to it’s predecessor lets find out.
Ten years after the Battle of the Breach, former jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost—son of Kaiju War hero Stacker Pentecost—makes a living by stealing and selling jaeger parts on the black market. When he is arrested by the Pan-Pacific Defence Corps, his adoptive sister and PPDC commander Mako Mori gives him a choice between prison and returning to the PPDC as an instructor.
Upon arriving at the Hong Kong Shatterdome, Jake starts training jaeger program recruits with his estranged former copilot, Nate Lambert. Nate and his sister reveal to him that the jaeger program is threatened by Shao Corporation’s drone program, which offers to mass produce remote controlled jaegers developed by Liwen Shao and Dr. Newt Geiszler. The drone program combines jaeger technology with cloned kaiju cells. Mako is due to deliver a final assessment to determine the authorization of the drones, but is killed by rogue jaeger Obsidian Fury before she can report. Her death prompts the PPDC board to authorize the drone program and order their immediate deployment. In her last moments, Mako reveals the location of a defunct jaeger production facility in Russia, which she suspects Obsidian Fury is using as a base of operations. Before Jake and Nate can investigate the area in their own jaeger, Obsidian Fury destroys the complex and engages them in battle. Upon destroying its reactor, the two are shocked to learn that Obsidian Furywas controlled by a kaiju’s secondary brain, as are all of Shao’s drones.
When the drones reach their respective locations, they simultaneously attack shatterdomes worldwide, inflicting heavy casualties on the PPDC forces and incapacitating almost all jaegers. Who is behind these attacks, it is possible for the breach to open and Kaiju’s once again attack earth. To find out these answers you need to watch the film.
First things first though Pacific Rim Uprising is nothing on part one it still makes for an entertaining watch. Director Steven S mc Knight who has directed television before with shows like spartcus makes an impressive debut and shows that he can take the mantle from Del Toro. He manages to bring out some very interesting moments in the film and that’s a big fist up for him.
On the cast John Boyega as Jake Penticoat who’s the new current hot favorite in H Town puts an impressive performance. Scott Eastwood as Nate Lambert is impressive too, he works his eyes extremely well and is definately going places . Cailee Spaeny who plays the most important part of young Amara is extremely talented and is a delight to watch.
Philip J Silvera who’s worked on films like deadpool is consulting the Action Sequences of the Yaegers and puts together some interesting fight sequences.
The visual effects are a treat specially the final fight. One can’t help but notice that there are actors cast form all parts of the world to cater to all audiences espically china which might just work in their favor
On the whole , Pacific RIm Uprising is an entertaining watch post the first hour. It will pull in big numbers in it’s initial week but it’s doubtful it will beat the 411 million of the first part.
