Just 10 days ago we announced that acclaimed Actor Jessica Chastain was all set to star in Action film Eve that was written and directed by Matthew Newton.<\/p>\n
Now we have learnt that Newton has exited the project.<\/p>\n
The news of Newton an Australian director’s\u00a0 hire caused a backlash against the project and Chastain, who’s a strong voice in the current #MeToo movement and the Time\u2019s Up campaign. Newton had pleaded guilty in his home country to assaulting his girlfriend back in 2007.<\/p>\n
Eve has faced a lot of back lash every since the film was announced\u00a0 . Newton released a statement which is as follows.<\/p>\n
Yesterday I notified Jessica Chastain and the other producers on the film EVE that I will be stepping down as director. Since the announcement of this film, the responses, which are powerful and important, have not fallen on deaf ears. I am profoundly aware that I have a responsibility to lead where I have failed in the past. I can never undo the harm that I\u2019ve caused the people I\u2019ve cared about and I carry that shame and responsibility with me every day. Over the past eight years I have been working extensively with healthcare professionals to help me overcome my addiction and mental health illness. For the past six years I have lived a quiet and sober life. All I can do now is try to be a living amends and hopefully contribute to the positive change occurring in our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
Though Matthew will still be credited as a writer, he will have to forfeit his direction advance. A replacement is currently being hunted we have learn’t from our sources a female director is being approached to helm the project.<\/p>\n
