Salman Khan has gained unimaginable success Starting from 2009. Wanted solidified his place as an action hero and gave him success that i don’t think he even imagined. From 2009 t0 2016 he’s grown from strength to strength becoming one of the biggest Stars in the history of Indian cinema in terms of popularity and Star power.
His latest Release is Yash Raj Film’s SULTAN where he plays the titled role. His last relase with YRF was “Ek Tha Tiger” which was one of the better action films Indian Cinema had to offer . Can he out beat the Action of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ ? Lets find out.
To Start with even a blind man can See that SULTAN is our desi ‘Rocky Balboa’ , Rocky is by far one of the best scripts ever written a true master piece that glorifies the underdog to the greatest of heights. Its text book 101. Sultan Starts of on a promising note, A small time wrestler who rises to power , he soon forget’s the reason for him becoming a wrestler his lady love Arfa . Success goes so high to his head that nothing matters to him. A tragedy causes Arfa to move away from sultan’s life. Sultan slowly fades away as a once upon a time wrestler until one day A pro MMA promoter comes to offer him a job to become a fighter of Mixed Martial Arts and represent India in the MMA tournament will Sultan fight and will he be able to win the contest and find what he has lost his pride and family
Sultan set’s up to the promise of a really entertaining human Story with scope for some great action . However the length of the film is the biggest downer , Clubbing Rocky 1 to 6 is tough but running at almost 3 hours the film is way too long in this day and age. While the first half is fun, the excess songs are a big downer also the second half could be way sharper . The brilliant background score lift’s even the most average scene’s . But the last song, which happens to be the best song of the film is totally out of place and plays a real spoiler in the emotional journey of the viewer.
The action of the film is designed by Larnell Stovall who’s worked on the Indie Cult Undisputed, Stovall managed to get the best of Stuntmen Like Marresse Crump and Mark Zorko to fight opposite Salman Khan . These Guy’s are the finest of the fine but the execution of the fight scenes is extremely poor . Stovall who’s worked on Indie Undisputed which in noway has the budget of a sultan has better execution of the fight Scenes. There’s no consistency in the edit or the fight and besides a few moves here and there i was sorely disappointed.
Who ever advised them on MMA should have told them that an injured fighter who’s being treated in hospital and can possibly die if he enters the ring ( picked from the WRESTLER Starring mickey rouke) will never be cleared to fight by the athletic commission ever. And when a fighter is not moving, The fight is over via TKO.
Salman Khan has does a great Job, He’s got the maturity to pull off any role. He does so with flying colors I just didn’t like that fact that he wasn’t in shape . Anushka Sharma does a really good job, i personally don’t want to see her playing a north Indian for very long. Salman’s Side kick was very good. So was Amit Sadh. Randeep Hooda essay’s the role of Mickey from Rocky he even has the same Hat on.
On the whole Sultan is a decent watch that has its share of entertaining moments, but the pace and multiple songs do bum one out. I only wished Hooda said the epic line ” get up you SOB , cause Mickey loves you” that was the only thing missing.
Will the film do very well- Yes, does the fact that its A Salman Khan Film count for the success- Yes Yes, is the fact that there was a month long lull at the box office for Ramadan count – Absolutely
We at amdb.in wish the entire team all the very best.
