WONDER WOMAN Does Wonders for Patty Jenkins

When it was prophesied that women would one day rule the world, who would have imagined they meant the silver screen!

Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, has become a symbol of strength for women across the country.

Jenkins is returning to the director’s chair to lead the second film in the franchise that she was so instrumental in starting. No one expected Wonder Woman to be such a supersonic success, it opened to a collections of $103.2M and went on to gross close to $800M worldwide for Warner Bros. Jenkins has refueled the strength of DC movies and the studio.

Last month at Comic-Con, the studio confirmed both a sequel with Wonder Woman and the star Gal Gadot. A release in December 2019 was also confirmed. However, curiously, there was no deal with Jenkins. The delay was due to the pay scale. Jenkins expects to be paid substantially more or equally as a male director would receive after such a box office coup. The deal is still being finalized, this would then make her as the highest-paid female director in town.

And why not? Wonder Woman shattered several glass ceilings at the box office: the film had the best opening for a title by a female director, the film had the best global uptake for a live-action directed by a woman, and to top it all, it was the third-highest grossing film in Warner Bros.’ history (behind only Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ series).
Jenkins had directed Monster, and a few TV serials before Wonder Woman. She handled the film with expertise, with an intuitive expression of emotion and vulnerability in the characters. The story simply flowed.
No doubt, Wonder Woman has done wonders not only on the silver screen, but in reality as well.
