Wu Jing is currently shooting the sequel, Wolf Warrior 2, he’s both in front and behind the camera, as director/producer and leading man. A Chinese Special Forces hero finds himself in trouble in a war torn African country. (although set in Africa, the movie is currently shooting outside of Beijing). Yu Nan from Expendables 2 will also be returning in this, the second part of a proposed Wolf Warrior trilogy. Joining the film as Wu’s nemesis, is Frank Grillo from the Captain America franchise.
The Russo Brothers, fresh from the international success of Captain America: Civil War are helping produce the movie, as a first step into the Chinese market – having recently formed Anthem Pictures, their new company which will be creating Chinese language projects and focusing on the Chinese market. The brothers say they fell in love with China during the promotional tour for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and have already spoken of plans for a new take on Journey to the West and been talking with various China talent about potential projects.
Wolf Warrior 2 is now filming in China and Africa with a release date targeted for August 2017.
