This truly goes to show the power of the Action Genre , Den of thieves which was marketed as an Action film and which actually was nothing more than a Drama around cops has managed to get a sequel greenlit.
Gerard Butler, Tucker Tooley, Mark Canton, Alan Siegel, Curtis Jackson and director Christian Gudegast with O’Shea Jackson, Jr.have managed to return for a sequel to the heist drama . The project, will be distributed by STX worldwide who also distributed the first one domestic.
Den of Thieves 2, will be directed again by Gudegast. The Story will find Big Nick (Butler) on the hunt in the streets of Europe closing in on Donnie who is embroiled in the dangerous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange.
Though the original den of thieves Hugely under performed at the box office and made a total of 57 million on a 55 million all inclusive budget the producers recouped 60 percent through foreign pre sales and another 20% from Tax incentives.
What’s interesting is that Butler who has managed to find a strong international audience since he’s been a part of Olympus and London has Fallen which did a 150 million plus each the producers managed to wing in a fantastic international pre sale based on his previous performances. However the film lacked any action and that has what has caused the dismissal performance over seas.
The sequel is a go and we hope it has more action on hand as the film has the scope for major actor and if they incorporate it it will be a real winner at the Box office.
We at amdb wish the entire team all the very best.
