Alita Battle Angel didn’t do too well at the box office , however the director of the film is all set to get back to work in a genre he loves most.
Robert Rodriguez and Diego Boneta are teaming up for El Gato Negro, an adaptation of a Mexican comic book being set up at Apple TV+ as a series.
The comic, that is created by Richard Dominguez, centered on the multi generational exploits of two crime-fighting heroes in South Texas.
The first hero was a young man who takes up the mantle of a fabled local hero to avenge the death of his best friend while the other was his grandfather, a lucha (Mexican wrestler) who turned to crime-busting decades earlier.
Rodriguez will direct and exec produce Gato with Boneta starring and also exec producing via his company Three Amigos.
The project gained traction this summer when Boneta was pitched a take by Supergirl writer Eric Carrasco during San Diego Comic-Con at Nobu. Immidiately they pitched to apple and the deal was on.
Boneta is soon rising up the ranks in the Action genre with his next release being the highly awaited Terminator Dark Fate that opens in Nov.
The Show will be Shot in Texas where Rodriguez lives and will mostly be shot in his house where he filmed Alita the battle Angel
