Lionsgate who has a few prominent action franchises has decided to reshuffle the release date of their Action films to reap the best in the ongoing pandemic .
John Wick 4 will no longer open on May 21, 2021 where Warner Bros is bringing Keanu Reeves’ Matrix 4, rather May 27, 2022, which is Memorial Day weekend .
The move makes sense since one can’t have a Keanu Vs Keanu conflict. Both films are big franchises are pushing the date makes total sense.
The matrix franchise has grossed over 1.5 billion world wide across 3 films produced by Ace Action film producer Joel Sivers .
On the other Hand John Wick franchise has grossed over 600 million world wide at the box office making a sweet sweet profit for it’s producers.
The Ryan Reynolds- Samuel Jackson sequel to The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard jumps a year to Aug. 20, 2021 from Aug. 28 2020.
Millennium films will take no chance with their now biggest franchise and will do everything to get the film a proper release.
The 2017 first installment was a late summer hit for Lionsgate( co prodcucers) grossing $180.7M World wide on a 35 million budget.
Lionsgate is adding the Neil Burger directed Action sci-fi feature Voyagers starring Tye Sheridan and Lily Rose-Depp to Nov. 25, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving where it will encounter MGM’s No Time to Die and Sony/Tri-Star’s The Happiest Season.
The last might not be the smartest decision but with no other window their is no other choice.
