It was early in the day and we had predicted the Fate of XXX the return of Xander Cage. Everyone said we were over our head to predict the film would do a biz of close to half a Billion Gross . Though Split opened with twice the numbers of XXX, XXX has smashed it’s numbers internationally .
XXX the Return of Xander Cage has crossed 90 million World Wide, and as trends shows the extreme actioner muscled up No. 1s in 32 markets, and in like-for-like plays is 45% above Kingsman: The Secret Service, 6% over San Andreas and on par with Par’s own G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
Kingsmen the Secret Service has done a business of 414 million world wide, and if trends are to show XXX the return of Xander Cage is on it’s way to making those numbers even beating them.
The film, directed by DJ Caruso, opened tops in most of the majors where it bowed including Russia, France and Germany. In Russia, the IMAX launch was Diesel’s best outside the Fast & Furious franchise. xXx also leads India where last weekend’s paid previews set a Jan Opening record with a huge No.1 opening of $7.4M.
While franchise got splat by Split domestically, this $85M budgeted picture and its diverse cast is built for international where distribution rivals say the start is fair. China, which releases on February 10. It should open with Massive numbers in the Middle Kingdom, as Diesel is a huge star there and Donnie Yen is the Face of Hong Kong Cinema.
This only proves the reach and power of Action, though the film wasn’t the best script though it was a late blooming franchise, though Diesel was no the Same guy he was 10 years ago . The Stunts and the Action got the Cinegoes in the cinema Halls to make this film, the most value for their money that day.
