17 years later the Franchise gets a reboot with it’s original producer New line Cinema coming together with it’s new producers NetFlix to recreate the NYPD Detective. A completely Different business model is in play with this reboot where Netflix will pay more than half the film’s 30 million $ Production budget. They Will retrieve the international rights and will be able to put the film on its streaming outside the U.S. two weeks after New Line releases theatrically in North America.
The Shaft reboot has been written by Kenya Barris, and will star Samuel L Jackson back as John Shaft.Independence Day: Resurgence star Jessie T. Usher is set to play Shaft’s son. It’s a big responsibility as Samuel L Jackson will be passing the baton onto to Usher. He will play a young cyber expert FBI agent who, despite being estranged from his father, is forced to work with him on a case.
The film is produced by John Davis of Davis entertainment who has previously produced the predictor. The film is set to go on floors soon.
