CBS Television Studios who was behind Star Trek: Discovery, has signed Alex Kurtzman in a 25 million-dollar five-year overall deal that will see him supervise the expansion of CBS’ Star Trek franchise for television, developing new series, mini-series and other content opportunities, including animation. Alex Kurtzman is an American film and television writer, producer, and director. He is best known for co-writing the scripts to Transformers, Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and The Amazing Spider-Man
There are currently multiple shows set within the “Star Trek” universe already in development.
The potential new shows are said to include:
- A teen-oriented series set at Starfleet Academy from Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, the duo behind the recent Dynasty reboot and Marvel’s Runaways adaptation.
- A limited series with a currently confidential plot.
- A limited series based around the beloved character Khan, from the original Star Trek and the classic film The Wrath of Khan—something that’s been rumored for a while as being spearheaded by Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer.
- An animated series with another currently confidential plot.
