Graphic novels have always been the best and most successful form of adaptation. The reason for that is not because they have a monster fan base, the reason for that is that it let’s artist take their imagination to new heights without without worrying about commercial attributes of the content.
Graphic novels have had a massive success rate when adapted into feature films ( Kingsman, 300, Sin city) and now the same success could be repeated with tele.
Artist Dave Gibbons made comic book history with writer Alan Moore when they collaborated on Watchmen , the complex ed story was trying to be made into a feature film but found little success until Zack Snyder stepped in and took the pieces of wood and turned it into a motion picture.
The film was an average success but went on to gain a cult following.
The Fan success have got Cable giants HBO to green light a Series for the complexed Super Heroes. Filming has been underway with a 2019 premiere planned for a Watchmen.
Gibbons told a Daily the HBO project was complexed because it was not a straightforward adaptation and it shares a name with the original work but tells a story that veers away from it and exists on its own.
DC seems to be excited about the project too as in recent years, DC Comics returned to the Watchmen universe to publish prequels and supplemental stories following the characters created by Moore and Gibbons.
The show boasts of an A-list cast led by Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson and Louis Gossett Jr.
Damon Lindleof ( lost) will be producing.
All set to hit TV in 2019.
