The long-awaited Matt Damon film,THE GREAT WALL released in China over the weekend, and made a huge contribution in the Chinese box office. The film, which is a co-production between U.S. and China, grossed over $69 million dollars. The Trend is strong and with the Chinese Loving their monster the film shall do over 150 domestic.
Universal Pictures, Le Vision Pictures, and Legendary Entertainment, the latter of which is owned by Wanda Group Co. Wanda Group being the largest stake holders. Not only are they a large production agency, but the company owns the largest theater chain in China too.
Zhang Yimou is directing “The Great Wall,” which was the main appeal for Matt Damon to sign the project. Damon plays a European mercenary who fights along side with Chinese soldiers to fight off monsters attacking China.
Damon stars alongside of popular Chinese actors in this “action-packed-sci-fi –war-drama”.
The Great Wall” is set to hit the US market in February.
