Many of Tom Clancy’s novels have been adapted for the big screen. Blockbusters like Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, The Sum of All Fear have been big hits. Rainbow Six has not yet been adapted for a film treatment. However, it is in the works now, Akiva Goldman is developing it for Paramount Pictures. Ryan Reynolds is in early talks to play the lead role. The film will follow the story of a Navy SEAL, John Clark leading an international task force to counter terrorism.
Rainbow Six gained popularity as a first-person shooter video game and has expanded to include installments in multi-player modes in various updated formats. The story is basically about a fictional international counter-terrorist unit called Rainbow and the video game was first released alongside the book in 1998.
Tom Clancy passed away in 2013, Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec, will be adapting the story for big screen. They are the co-producers and writers of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. And therefore are well-versed in writing espionage films.
