The Sequel to Pacific Rim has hit the marquee on the 23rd of March in 62 markets world wide in it’s first roll out. The film is looking at a 25 million first frame which is lower than it’s 2013 predecessor which opened at 37 million first frame.
Legendary’s “Pacific Rim Uprising” stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian with Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman returns from the original 2013 film directed by Guillermo del Toro whch put up a world wide number of 411 million.
However this film doesn’ t seem to be going that way though its opened to a massive 22 million in China and trends suggest a 60 million first frame our analytics show not too high an upward swing for the yagers. Currently in it’s first major roll out the film has put together a 150 million dollars on the box office which China and South Korea performing best South Korea stands at 4 million..
The point to note here is that China is growing it’s Imax screens on a Rapid level and that can be the driving point of the business of Pacific Rim as it was conceived in IMax.
We gave it a B+ which was what coms gave it too, pacific Rim looks to end it’s first week at 200 million and will finish it’s life time business at 380 million or so , about 30 million below part one.
