Renny Harlin was once one of the most sought after directors in Hollywood. Harlin had directed Hit’s like Die Hard 2 and Cliff hanger . However after a sew duds and the last one being Millennium films Hercules Harlin soon found no producers in H town and turned his attention towards China who welcomed him with open Arms.
Harlin is all set to direct Operation Somalia. Chinese fan’s are huge on Movies based on real life operations as all the recent films like Operation Me Kong , Wolf Warrior and Opeation Red Sea were massive hits at the Box Office
Operation Somalia is co-produced by Mythological Universe, Mailang Pictures and Jindun Film & Television Center of the Ministry of Public Security. , And is said to made on a budget of 30 million USD.
The film’s story, based on true events, revolves around an epic rescue operation against Somali pirates mounted by Chinese special forces that took place a few years ago.
The film stars Hong Kong’s Nick Cheung as a mortuary medical worker and actress Yang Zi as his intern assistant.
Harlin is on fire in China as this is his 4th film in 3 years set to go into production. After tasting success with Skiptrace which Harlin directed for Jackie Chan , Harlin decided to relocate himself in China . However the film that was announced to roll in April 2018 might finally be going on floor soon.
Harlin in an interview Said that after seeing Operation Red Sea he did not want any similarities between his film and that. Harlin went on to add that he had hired Yi Liu, who co-wrote the Wolf Warrior to write his film. He added that he was super excited to direct operation Somalia as the Action takes place on Land Sea and Air.
