We had mentioned in 2014 that Netflix with it’s 4 billion funding come in had directed 60 percent of that investment into the action genre.
Netflix greenlite it’s biggest film in Six Underground that is made on a whopping budget of a 160 million dollars. Now the streaming giants have announced the remake of one of the 90’s biggest films.
Beverly Hills Cop ,Axel Foley will come back to active duty for the streaming giants. Paramount has made a one-time license deal — with an option for not one but 4 sequels — that will enable Netflix to make the film with Eddie Murphy .
Paramount launched the franchise in 1984 with the Martin Brest original, followed by a Tony Scott-directed second installment in 1987 and a third by John Landis in 1994. Though rumors were there for a 4th it never happened as by that time Eddie had lost his star power.
Paramount has attempted numerous iterations of Beverly Hills Cop over the past few years, including an attempted TV series that Murphy was going to star in, but which never quite made it to the start line
A recap for all that don’t know about the film. After his childhood buddy is murdered while visiting Detroit, rebellious cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) follows the leads to Beverly Hills, Calif., under the auspices of a vacation.
He checks in with old friend Jenny Summers (Lisa Eilbacher) and starts to believe her boss, art dealer Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff), might somehow be involved in the murder. However, Lt. Bogomil (Ronny Cox) of the Beverly Hills Police Department does not trust Foley, and hinders his search for evidence.
The film will be produced by legendary Action film producer Jerry Bruckheimer. As of now no Director is involved in the project however keep reading this space for more info.
